NRG is the country’s leading integrated competitive power company with a diverse district energy, CHP, and generation portfolio, including natural gas, coal, nuclear, and a growing fleet of wind and solar generation facilities. From this base springs an equally diverse range of energy approaches to power businesses forward – reliably, efficiently, sustainably, and affordably.
In California, this diversity story incorporates 10,700 MW of total generation, both traditional and renewable. The efficiency story also extends to a district energy steam plant in San Francisco and a chilled water plant at the NRG Energy Center San Diego. Here, NRG supplies district cooling to buildings in a four-square-mile service area in the city’s central business district. The result is a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment for San Diego businesses since 1971.
At the corporate level, NRG plans to do their part to reduce carbon emissions while growing its business and facilitating global progress toward a sustainable energy future. In November 2014, NRG set industry-leading greenhouse gas reduction goals and announced a goal to cut CO2 and CO2 equivalent emissions 50 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 from a 2014 baseline. This goal is the first for any power producer with concrete dates to transition to a low-carbon economy.
