to Clean Transportation

California passed its target of putting 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on Golden State roads a couple of years ahead of schedule.

San Diego County has 131,407 light-duty electric vehicles on the road supported by 6,529 public charging stations plus 2,123 SDG&E light-duty owned charging stations.

San Diego Unified School District made a commitment to all-electric new buildings and fleet.

Port of San Diego added North America’s first all-electric harbor cranes and nation’s first all-electric tug boat to its operations.

SDG&E and Toyota collaborating on vehicle-to-grid research for battery electric vehicles.

Energy Storage Projects

The Department of Energy selected a team with UC San Diego scientists to lead a $10 million project to promote battery recycling and reuse.

AES proposed to construct the 400 MW Seguro storage project near Escondido, which is slated to be the largest in San Diego County with enough capacity to power nearly 300,000 homes.

EnerSmart Storage unveiled a new battery energy storage system in Chula Vista that can power nearly 3,000 homes for each hour it provides electricity to the grid.

SDG&E finished two energy storage facilities totaling 171 megawatts in Fallbrook and Imperial Valley. The facilities have the capability to power nearly 130,000 homes for four hours.

San Diego Community Power has 891 MW of battery storage procured.

48,010 energy storage projects equaling 1,452 MW of capacity have been completed in SDG&E territory.

  • Joined San Diego Community Power to host an exclusive dinner with San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and fellow local businesses leaders who have opted up to 100% renewable energy as Power100 Champions.
  • Hosted a webinar focused on nature-based solutions to climate change with presentations by conservation experts from WILDCOAST, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, and San Diego Audubon Society.
  • Showcased San Diego’s cleantech leadership and energy startup ecosystem at Connect‘s San Diego Innovation Day.
