CleanTECH San Diego Announces Leadership Changes

President & COO Resigns; Interim President Named; Communications Director Hired


SAN DIEGO, CA, January 21, 2014 – The CleanTECH San Diego board of directors today accepted the resignation of Holly Smithson, president and Chief Operating Officer. After six years of outstanding service, Smithson is leaving CleanTECH San Diego to pursue opportunities in the for-profit private sector.


The Board of CleanTECH San Diego has appointed Jason Anderson as interim president. Anderson has served as vice president of CleanTECH San Diego since 2010 and will continue to serve as executive director of the Cleantech Education Foundation.


“Being part of a team that established a brand new industry cluster has been an experience like nothing else,” said Smithson. “I continue to be moved by our cleantech pioneers who have shown the full power of collaboration. I look forward to the continued success of CleanTECH San Diego.”


“I thank Holly for her great service to CleanTECH San Diego, and look forward to working with Jason and our talented team on innovative initiatives and collaborations that keep San Diego at the top of the evolving cleantech economy,” said CleanTECH Executive Chairman James T. Waring.


Other team additions include Shannon Casey as communications director. Casey oversees overall corporate communications, marketing, and public relations activity to raise the visibility and profile of CleanTECH San Diego and its members. She formerly led marketing efforts with weather software start-up company EarthRisk Technologies, and prior to that, she spent seven years as marketing manager at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.


Additionally, Josh Harman rounds out the team as program manager. Harman is responsible for supporting the leadership team and developing and managing key member programs and regional initiatives. He previously worked in media production for major network studios in Los Angeles and internationally. He has also worked in international sports production.
