Electric Vehicle Day – San Diego Draws Hundreds to Ride & Drive Event

  |   Electric Vehicles

Hundreds of people showed up at Liberty Station Sept. 20 to take hundreds of test drives in electric vehicles and learn about purchasing incentives at Electric Vehicle Day — San Diego: A National Drive Electric Week Event. The free event hosted by SDG&E, Cleantech San Diego, and the Center for Sustainable Energy featured free test drives for the public of the latest EVs on the market at the largest gathering of electric vehicles in San Diego’s history. 100 current EV drivers also came out with their cars to share their experiences as EV owners.

The City of San Diego and the County of San Diego proclaimed it “Electric Vehicle Week” in San Diego in honor of the event, which came shortly after sales and leases of EVs passed the 10,000 mark in SDG&E’s service territory and the 100,000 car milestone in the state of California.

“This exciting news underscores the fact that we have an enormous opportunity ahead of us as a region and state to grow the electric vehicle and charging infrastructure markets,” said James Avery, SDG&E senior vice president of power supply.

“San Diegans are clearly ready to live in an EV world,” said Cleantech San Diego President Jason Anderson. “And with our ranking as the #3 region in the nation for cleantech leadership, San Diego business and industry are more than just along for the ride, they are leading the charge.”
