EvoNexus and Cleanteh San Diego Partner to Accelerate Growth for Clean Technology Startups
Non-Profit Collaboration Will Foster Regional Cleantech Development
SAN DIEGO, CA, June 27, 2012 – EvoNexus, the CommNexus San Diego incubator for startup companies, today announced its collaboration with CleanTECH San Diego, a non-profit organization accelerating clean technology development in the San Diego region, to aid entrepreneurs in bringing early-stage cleantech ventures to market. The partnership combines CleanTECH San Diego’s services aimed at growing the region’s cleantech cluster and fostering economic development with the EvoNexus ground-breaking community incubator model.
San Diego is currently home to hundreds of cleantech companies ranging from startups to global brands. Entrepreneurs in sectors including renewable energy, clean transportation and smart grid technologies have flocked to the region to take advantage of the significant deal flow, talent pool, and research and development scope that distinguishes San Diego as a global cleantech leader. CleanTECH San Diego’s existing capital formation, SCRUB and showcase programs will serve as the connective tissue to opportunities in both EvoNexus’ downtown and La Jolla offices.
“CleanTECH San Diego has continually worked to help the local cleantech community turn great ideas into viable companies. We are thrilled to support EvoNexus in providing these entrepreneurs with an amazing, pro-bono space to launch their enterprises,” said CleanTECH San Diego CEO & President Jim Waring. “The EvoNexus incubator is a unique regional resource and provides an integral platform for collaboration.”
Companies housed at EvoNexus are provided with the tools needed to grow their business and attract investment. The project, which currently has 26 companies in incubation and has helped create over 300 jobs, is building on its proven track record of six graduated companies and more than $82 million raised in venture funding since its inception to increase enrollment from cleantech startups.
“San Diego’s cleantech growth is a natural extension of decades of technology innovation in the high-tech, biotech, wireless and defense sectors,” said Rory Moore, CEO, CommNexus. “We believe putting an emphasis on ventures looking to solve global sustainability issues will only further elevate San Diego’s leadership in transforming the way human beings consume and produce energy resources.”
