K-12 Schools Sustainability Strategy Collaborative Update
San Diego’s K-12 Schools Sustainability Strategy Collaborative (SSSC) continues to be recognized as the state’s best practice in Proposition 39 implementation. In April, Marty Turock presented about the collaborative, along with the California Energy Commission, at the Green California Summit in Sacramento.
CleanTECH San Diego is actively educating and promoting the concept of public agency “piggyback” procurements to streamline the Prop 39 project implementation process for school districts across California. At the last K-12 SSSC meeting, the San Diego County Office of Education circulated a template to help schools secure approval to immediately begin LED exterior lighting retrofits on campuses and in parking lots by “piggybacking” off the City of San Diego’s exterior lighting contract. The San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego Unified School District, and Sweetwater Union High School District are currently investigating this fast-track procurement option.
