K-12 Schools Sustainability Strategy Collaborative Update
The California Energy Commission (CEC) recently released its latest schedule of Proposition 39 Program – Local Educational Agency (LEA) Training Seminars, which include one webinar and eight meetings at sites across the state. A field training session will be hosted and conducted by our San Diego Region K-12 Schools Sustainability Strategy Collaborative on April 15 and is open to all interested regional stakeholders.
The CEC also recently released a Program Opportunity Notice-PON-14-608 Natural Gas Fueling Infrastructure. K-12 schools seeking to fund projects that establish or expand infrastructure necessary to store, distribute, and dispense compressed natural gas for use in natural gas vehicles are eligible for grants ranging from $250,000 to $500,000. The deadline to submit applications is June 11, 2015.
With the approval this month of San Diego Unified School District’s Museum Charter School’s $233,267 Energy Expenditure Plan, San Diego is one of the leading counties in the state with 27 Energy Expenditure Plans approved for a total of $21.1 million. When fully implemented, these projects will reduce energy usage by 9.8 million kWh annually, reduce demand by 2.8 MW, and save $2 million annually in utility costs to our schools while creating 118 job-years of project work.
