The Smart Grid Industry in San Diego: Leading the smart grid movement.

San Diego is a global leader in microgrid technology. The region is home to pioneering universities such as UC San Diego with its world-renowned microgrid that generates 92% of campus power on site. The U.S. military also looks to San Diego to expand its cleantech practices and goals for energy independence. Camp Pendleton’s sophisticated microgrid makes it one of the greenest armed forces bases in the world and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar broke ground in 2017 on a major microgrid project that uses the power of the sun to provide backup energy to the sprawling base. The California Energy Commission is also actively investing in the advancement of microgrids at three new sites across San Diego County, including the Port of San Diego.
