PACE Program Creates Jobs and Spurs Cleantech Investment in San Diego County

San Diego County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Dave Roberts recently co-hosted a press conference announcing the success of property assessed clean energy (PACE) in San Diego County and featuring remarks from industry leaders and Cleantech San Diego members Sullivan Solar Power and Renovate America.

The event was held at the County Administration Building and reflected on the accomplishments of the PACE program two years after its implementation in San Diego County. Since its launch in 2014, the financing initiative has resulted in the creation of as many as 2,800 local jobs and the investment of $300 million in local energy improvements, including the installation of rooftop solar panels.

“Two years in, the program is on a roll,” said Jacob, vice-chair of the Board of Supervisors, “It’s good for the economy. It’s good for the job market. And it’s good for ratepayers tired of big, fat utility bills.”

The press conference highlighted how thousands of homeowners are taking advantage of the special loan program that is lowering utility bills and stimulating growth in the region’s renewable energy industry. Tara Kelly, Director of Community Development at Sullivan Solar Power, commented on the development of the San Diego County solar industry, now a $1 billion a year industry.

“In San Diego we have a thriving solar power industry that is ready and eager to move San Diego away from fossil fuels, and PACE plays an important role in that transition,” said Kelly, “As electricity costs continue to increase, PACE offers a cost-effective mechanism to empower consumers to embrace the renewable technology of today to ensure a better future for tomorrow.”

Sullivan Solar Power is an approved PACE contractor, offering homeowners and businesses the ability to finance their solar power systems on their property tax bills. PACE loans do not require a credit check or a loan tied to a person.
